Even as the MLB regular season is drawing to a close, Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani is still managing to break historic records.

For one, the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners recently turned to one option to contain Ohtani. Over the latter two games of their four-game series against the Angels, the Astros walked the two-way star a combined seven times. And in the Mariners’ series-opening clash with the Angels, they walked him four times.

The astounding 11 walks over a three-game span for Ohtani is now a new American League record. He does share the MLB record with Bryce Harper, who totaled for 11 walks over three games in May 2016, which included his six-walk game against the then-Joe Maddon-led Chicago Cubs.

This notable American League walks record was previously shared by five different players who recorded 10 walks over a three-game span, which included Reggie Jackson (1969) and Babe Ruth (1930).

What is most impressive is that Barry Bonds does not hold the all-time record for the most walks recorded over a three-game span, although he did notch 10 walks over three games during his historic 2001 season with the San Francisco Giants.

Overall, Ohtani’s OBP has received a much-needed boost with this record-breaking feat, as it jumped from a .358 OBP to now a .368 one.

For now, Ohtani will sure look to make the most out of the final week of the season, especially as he is five RBI away from 100 and four strikeouts away from 150.
