APEX Legends breaks barriers not only by being one of the most well-crafted battle royales in the market. Its developers, Respawn Entertainment, committed to sending each of its players a free APEX badge to honor both Black History Month and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Accomplices, not Allies

Respawn Development director Tim Lewinson revealed the badge in a Tweet earlier today. Additionally, Lewinson expressed his gratitude towards working people that helped the BLM movement in general. Players need only log in to the game to automatically receive the nifty new badge.

After that, the initial Tweet received a positive response from fans and players. It only goes to show how much the player base appreciates Respawn's stand against racial discrimination.

APEX's support towards the BLM movement is a great step but it's hardly the first industry move towards supporting the fight against racial inequality. EA, APEX's publisher, added a BLM message in FIFA 20 along with a special “No Room For Racism” item bundle. It's reassuring to see the big movers in the game industry fighting for racial equality.

APEX Season 8

The announcement coincides with the beginning of APEX Legend's eighth season. Players diving into King's Canyon from today can show off the brand new free BLM badge for all the world to see. Coincidentally, the APEX Legends playable character roster features one of the most diverse spread of characters in video games.

This new trend in video games has players hoping that other game development giants follow suit. The gaming scene plays home to some of the most passionate people in the world. However, several more studios need to push towards support for equality movements to get them on board. For now, we're happy that Respawn Entertainment, EA, and APEX Legends have taken a stand.
