Following the free transfer signing of longtime fullback Dani Alves, Barcelona is now looking to possibly reunite with another former Blaugrana star.

As noted by Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida, Barcelona is currently showing an early interest in signing Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara. At the moment, it is not known whether Barca is considering to either push to sign him over next year's winter transfer window or later on in the summer window.

New Barca manager Xavi Hernandez much appreciates Thiago and is open to bringing him back to the club. Talks have already opened up with Barca president Joan Laporta on the possibility of this transfer move.

Thiago came up with Barca through its famed La Masia academy. The veteran midfielder later featured in five seasons with Barca — all of them alongside Xavi — before leaving for Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich in 2013.

There was chatter last year over the possibility of Thiago rejoining Barca, but in the end, he opted to instead sign with Liverpool on a four-year transfer deal.

While he was a regular last season in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield setups, a calf injury has marred his campaign so far this year. Still, he has featured in key matches for Liverpool when fully fit, which include the away UEFA Champions League group stage fixture against Atletico Madrid.

Barca has no urgent need for a midfielder of Thiago’s caliber at the moment, but it will be noteworthy to see if Laporta soon pushes to sign him.
