For the first time in nearly three years, Chicago Bears premier defensive player Khalil Mack will not be suiting up on Sunday. Per Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun Times, Mack has been ruled out for the contest against the San Francisco 49ers.

This result isn't surprising as it was just earlier in the week that reports had surfaced that Mack would likely miss this game for the Bears and could even be put on injured reserve. The fact that Mack has just been ruled out for this singular game instead of going on IR could bode well for him returning a bit quicker than what may have been initially thought.

The Bears have sunk to a 3-4 record on the season but it hasn't been because of the defense. In fact, the defense has been playing pretty well for Chicago. The offense, however, ranks last in scoring in the entire NFL.

One game after another this year, a lot of the pressure has been put on Chicago's defense to come up with consistent stops as the offense has continue to sputter. Those challenges for the defense become a bit more difficult now with Mack hitting the shelf for the Bears.

Chicago does have a Week 10 bye coming up so maybe the plan is to keep Mack out the next two games and give him the bye week to rest up the injured ankle as well. Regardless of the plan and the prognosis moving forward, Mack is out for the Bears this Sunday when they take on San Francisco.
