The Chicago Bears has taken some major steps forward this offseason toward building a promising roster that could contend in the 2018 campaign. Much of this effort has focused on adding pieces to the puzzle around second-year quarterback Mitchell Turbisky.

It further cements that the organization has much faith that Turbisky could be the long-term answer under center for the franchise. With that in mind, new head coach Matt Nagy recently voiced that he is quite encouraged by the internal drive that the 23-year-old that has toward finding success on the field, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.

“[Alex and Mitchell are both] driven,” Nagy said. “They are completely driven and competitive. Hate to lose. Want to win more than anybody. They don’t just talk about it; they show it by their actions.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what Mitchell does and I’m really going to use everything I learned from Alex [Smith] to help him out.”

This early praise from Nagy could be a telling sign of what may be on the horizon next season in Chicago. Nagy is coming from a situation where he had much success with the Kansas City Chief where he held the positions of quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator over the last five years with the organization.

During this time, he helped quarterback Alex Smith put together some of the most productive campaigns of his career where he earned all three of his Pro Bowl selections. Smith is coming off his most productive this past season where he posted career highs across the board with 4,042 passing yards with 26 touchdowns to just five interceptions while holding a league-best 104.7 passer rating. He also finished the year third with a 67.5 percent completion rate, eighth in passing yards, and ninth in touchdown passes.

The additions that the Bears made in the offseason with tight end Trey Burton along with wide receivers Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel that will go along with Pro Bowl running back Jordan Howard could lead to a huge breakout year for Turbisky while leading the team to much success on the field.
