The Chicago Bears finally made the decision to fire Matt Nagy, after a turbulent season during which the head coach was frequently on the hot seat. The decision came down Monday morning that Nagy was out of a job, and the former Bears' boss issued a statement on Monday afternoon. In his statement, shared via the Chicago Bears Twitter account, Nagy thanked the organization from top to bottom for the opportunity he was given over the past four years.

While Nagy addressed the front office, coaching staff, and players, there was a notable exclusion from his statement. Nagy offered no comment or thanks for Bears fans. Considering the treatment he received from the frustrated fanbase, a lack of acknowledgment for them makes sense. After all, these are the very fans who began chanting “Fire Matt Nagy” at the former head coach's son's high school football game, and who would spark a similar chant at random sporting events across the state. If fans were expecting any kind words from Nagy in his departure, they'll be disappointed with his statement.

Nagy did personally address former Bears GM Ryan Pace, who was also fired during the “Black Monday” shakeup that took place in the NFL. Nagy and Pace were reported to have a strong relationship, though neither were retained by the Bears. Nagy clearly thinks highly of Pace, having left him significant praise in his exit statement.

Pace released an exit statement of his own, during which he complimented Nagy, while also paying respect to the Bears fanbase.

Nagy coached in Chicago for four years, posting a record of 34-31 throughout his tenure. After a 12-4 season in 2018, the Bears failed to finish with a record above .500 in any of Nagy's subsequent seasons at the helm.
