The Chicago Bears have been marred by the injury bug for much of the offseason and through the first couple of weeks of the preseason.

This was once again the case on Saturday, with wide receiver Cameron Meredith suffering what's believed to be a torn ACL in his left knee against the Tennessee Titans, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Those fears were confirmed today:

The hit that Meredith endured was quite brutal, as his leg bent in an awkward direction, leaving him on the field in pain and unable to get up under his own power. Today's MRI confirmed the injury that should effectively rule him out for the entire 2017 season.

Meredith was the Bears' most reliable receiving threat last season, putting up career highs with 66 catches for 888 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He was expected to take up a prominent role in the passing game in the 2017 season that could have led to him recording his best individual campaign.

However, the Bears now find themselves depending more heavily on third-year wideout Kevin White to potentially shoulder the load while veteran wideouts Kendall Wright, Victor Cruz, and Markus Wheaton could all take advantage of the opportunity to snag larger roles.
