Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is apparently none-too-pleased with rookie running back Joe Mixon.

After the team's game last weekend, Joe Mixon was publicly wondering why the Bengals did not give him any carries in the second-half of the game. Marvin Lewis had an answer — and it was essentially a polite way of telling the youngster he is better seen and not heard.

“You should show maturity just like everybody else,” Lewis said, via the team’s website. “Everybody wants to be out there all the time. But we’re not going to create a run when we are down by 12 or 15. We’re not going to create it. I saw a ball go on the ground when he received two balls thrown to him, which are the same situation. We got to handle it all the time the correct way, and be strong enough to not be led into questions after the game, which unfortunately he doesn’t know enough about.”

Joe Mixon entered the National Football League under heavy scrutiny. The Bengals drafted him anyway, and Marvin Lewis has to coach him no matter the running back's background.

While we could wax poetic about this being something the NFL franchise deserves, as the Bengals have a long history of employing talent with iffy histories, this is by no means that big of a deal. It isn't as if Mixon was out there yelling about the offensive line being the worst thing since sliced-bread or anything.

Nevertheless, this is a story certainly worth monitoring.
