The Cincinnati Bengals do not have a specific date yet for AJ Green's return after undergoing ankle surgery in late July. It seems to be that Week 3 is the best scenario for his ultimate return to in-game action, as The Athletic's Jay Morrison said:

“There is no updated timetable for Green since head coach Zac Taylor confirmed the receiver would miss multiple regular-season games. He is still rolling around on a knee scooter and has yet to begin on-field rehab work. Week 3 would still seem to be best-case scenario for a return.”

After his injury, head coach Zac Taylor noted that the seven-time Pro-Bowl wideout will miss regular season time, but he didn't know how much (via Geoff Hobson in Bengals.com).

“When they get in there and get the surgery done, they realized it's going to be a little bit longer.” It's just going to be a couple of games… hopefully he'll be ready to go at the beginning half of the season,” Taylor said.

Morrison's Week 3 best-case scenario date lines up with Taylor's belief that he'll mist the first couple of games. Until then, the Bengals announced they will start undrafted rookie Damion Willis. He's enjoyed a fantastic preseason and training camp to the point where he's a lock to make the roster.

The Bengals will use Tyler Boyd and John Ross to surround Willis. Boyd signed a four-year, $43 million extension in July after a breakout 2018 campaign. Ross, on the other hand, has battled injuries throughout training camp but should be available for Week 1.
