The Cincinnati Bengals can't seem to catch a break along their offensive line this year. After mulling the decision, offensive lineman Christian Westerman has retired from the NFL, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Bengals placed Westerman on the exempt/left squad list on Friday. Westerman spent just two seasons with the organization and started in only two games since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Besides Westerman, Clint Boling also announced his retirement with the Bengals. Boling played in Cincinnati for eight seasons and was the team's starting left guard for seven of them.

Unlike Boling, Westerman wasn't expected to be a starter for the Bengals. But he was going to provide depth along the offensive line. Currently, veteran John Jerry is slated to become the team's starting left guard.

Along with the retirement issues, Cincinnati has had to place their rookie offensive tackle on the physically unable to perform list after receiving shoulder surgery this offseason. Williams was selected with the 11th overall pick, and it's likely he doesn't see the field in 2019.

The Bengals drafted Williams to be the eventual left tackle in the offense.

If you're new head coach Zac Taylor, you can't feel great about the current situation with the offensive line. Before the regular season, he has witnessed two of his guys retire, a few get injured, and one get suspended. What a way to get inaugurated as the head coach of a Bengals team who hasn't won a playoff game since 1990.
