Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has made plenty of history in his rookie campaign. He has now reached yet another notable feat.

For over six decades, Hall of Fame wide receiver Bill Groman held the record for the most receiving yards by a rookie in a single season, including the playoffs. The former Houston Oilers wideout notched 1,473 receiving yards in 14 regular season games in the 1960 campaign, and he followed it up by tallying for 37 such yards in the playoffs.

Now, Chase holds this impressive record, as noted by NFL Research on Twitter.

Overall, Chase finished with 1,455 receiving yards in 17 regular season games, which set a record for the most such yards in Bengals franchise history. More so, the rookie wideout added 116 receiving yards in the Bengals’ AFC wild-card win against the Las Vegas Raiders, bringing his total to 1,571 such yards in 18 combined games played this season.

This sure is quite an impressive accomplishment for Chase considering that former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss and longtime San Francisco 49ers wideout Jerry Rice did not achieve this feat in their respective rookie seasons. Moss finished with 1,461 receiving yards in 18 combined games in the 1998 campaign. On the other hand, Rice notched 972 receiving yards over 17 total contests in the 1985 season.

Chase sure has orchestrated one of the more potent seasons by a rookie in NFL history.
