Report: Joe Burrow agrees to four-year, $36 million rookie contract with Bengals

Joe Burrow, Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals are now going to officially start a new rebuilding era with their franchise quarterback in LSU Tigers star Joe Burrow. The two sides have recently agreed to an agreement that will lock the services of the 23-year old rookie.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport disclosed the details on the contract signing on Twitter:

Joe Burrow had an up-and-down amateur career before becoming a highly-touted prospect that he is today. After starting his college football career as a backup to J.T. Barrett at Ohio State, he eventually packed his bags and transferred to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2018.

In his first year at LSU, Burrow was named the starting quarterback as a redshirt junior in 2018. He finished the season with 2,894 yards passing, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

A phenomenal 2019 run then took off for the LSU gunslinger. The hardware he brought home only spoke highly about his brilliance on the gridiron. He won the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Lombardi Award, and Manning Award.

On December 14, 2019, Burrow was awarded the 2019 Heisman Trophy, winning with the largest margin in the history of the award, and also earning the highest share of possible points available. He beat out Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields, Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Chase Young, and Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts for the honor.

He also led his LSU Tigers squad to a win over Trevor Lawrence and the Clemson Tigers to claim the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship. After concluding his collegiate career, he was eventually picked by the Bengals as the top overall pick in the recent 2020 NFL Draft.

Cincinnati fans can’t wait any longer to see their team be led by their quarterback of the future. Burrow along with A.J Green and the rest of the team will commence the 2020 season as they host the Los Angeles Chargers on September 13.
