The Cincinnati Bengals have gotten off to a rough start to the 2019 NFL season. Running back Joe Mixon has since taken to social media to apologize for his part in their shortcomings.

An 0-2 start was hardly an ideal way to kick things off in Cincinnati. Mixon shared a message with Bengals fans that included a promise from him to kick things up a notch, via Twitter:

Mixon's apology comes after he called out Bengals fans for the boos and leaving their home opener early. Like them, he is frustrated with how the season has started not only for the team, but himself individually.

He finished as the AFC's leading rusher during the 2018 campaign and was not shy about expressing his high expectations for a stellar follow-up performance. Unfortunately, the run game has been virtually non-existent for the Bengals thus far. As a result, Mixon has only tallied 27 yards on 17 carries through the first two games.

Cincinnati had been close to pulling off an upset victory over the Seattle Seahawks in the season opener. Although quarterback Andy Dalton enjoyed a career day in the passing game, it was not enough as the Bengals fell one point short of forcing overtime. Things only got worse in Week 2 as Cincinnati was simply outclassed by the San Francisco 49ers.

There is no question that the Bengals still have plenty to figure out on both sides of the ball. Regardless, the onus is on Mixon to provide some much-needed stability with the run game.

He will be looking to bounce back in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills.
