Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win

Do not expect the Rockies to get much going offensively in this game. They are facing a very good pitcher, and a pitcher that is extra dominant in home games. This means Cal Quantrill has to have a good game. He is one of the best pitchers on the Rockies, though. In fact, Quantrill owned a sub-2.00 ERA in the month of May with a 4-0 record. The Rockies need him to have another outing like  that in this game. If Quantrill can flush his last start, and go back to his dominant ways from May, the Rockies will have a chance to win this game.

Why The Cardinals Will Cover The Spread/Win

Sonny Gray has been lights out this season. This is especially true at home. As you can see above, Gray has a sub-1.00 ERA at Busch Stadium, and he has a very good strikeout to walk ratio. The Cardinals need this to continue Thursday night. Gray also gets a lot of strikeouts and he gets plenty of hitters to chase off the plate. The Rockies have the fifth-most strikeouts in the MLB, and the second-highest chase percentage. I am fully expecting Gray to have another lights out outing, and shutdown the Rockies in this game.

The Cardinals have to be locked in at the plate. They are facing a pitcher that tends to struggle at times. Quantrill will not strike many hitters out, and he is going to leave some pitches over the plate. With that said, the Cardinals are going to have plenty of chances to put the ball in play, and do it with some high exit velocities. If they can take some good swings at the plate, they will score some runs and win this game.

Final Rockies-Cardinals Prediction & Pick

Quantrill had an incredible month of May. However, he started June off with a tough start. Gray, on the other hand, is consistent and very good. He is even better, and more reliable when pitching in St. Louis. I am fully expecting a great start from Gray in this game. The Rockies will most likely not get anything going with their bats, and I think the Cardinals score enough to win this game. I will take the Cardinals to not only win this game, but cover the spread, as well.
