Old Dominion and Tulsa will face off in the Myrtle Beach Bowl on Monday. Each of these teams is riding winning streaks into the college bowl season. Old Dominion has won their last five games, while Tulsa has won three straight. Both of these teams just barely cracked bowl eligibility with a 6-6 season. Tulsa comes into this matchup as a two-possession favorite over Old Dominion.

Why Old Dominion Could Cover The Spread

Old Dominion had a pretty solid rushing attack this season. Running back Blake Watson rushed for over 1,000 yards with seven rushing touchdowns. The Monarchs will need to lean on their ground attack as underdogs in this one. That may prove to be a solid plan as Tulsa allowed nearly 150 rushing yards per game in 2021. The Monarchs were quietly really good against the spread this season, going 9-3 vs. the number overall.
As underdogs, Old Dominion was 6-3 vs. the spread this season. They have covered in five straight games and six of their last seven. The Monarchs could be in a sneaky spot to cover in this one, and a win wouldn't be the craziest upset in the world either. It should be noted that in their last three games as underdogs, Old Dominion has won outright. Not bad.
Why Tulsa Could Cover The Spread
Tulsa should be the better and more talented team in this spot. They played a tougher schedule, including a one-possession loss to No. 4 Cincinnati. Old Dominion has not played anyone of that pedigree. The Golden Hurricane will still need to be on upset alert in this one as Old Dominion is hot coming into this one, looking to extend their winning streak to six games. Tulsa should be able to control this game with their defense, but bowl season and college football in general can be a bit wonky.
Tulsa comes into play on a bit of heater of their own as winners of three straight. They have covered in four straight games, and went 7-5 vs. the spread during the regular season this year. Tulsa should be able to cover and win in this spot vs. an Old Dominion team that simply plays at a lower level of competition. Do not count out Old Dominion to find a way to stay in this one, though.

Bowl season perhaps brings out the wackiest part of college football. Trick plays, upsets, etc., bowl season is the time to expect the unexpected. While there is an urge to do that with this pick, Tulsa has a winning season on the line in this one and should be able to handle Old Dominion. The Tulsa defense was able to hold much better offenses than Old Dominion in check this season, so roll with the Golden Hurricane to take care of business as favorites in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.
