Why The Guardians Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Guardians are having a pretty good season. They are leading the AL Central, and are performing much better than some people expected. What is going to win this game is their hitting. They are facing Lorenzen, and he does a lot of things well on the mound. However, one thing he struggles with a little bit is walks. His walk rate is 11.7 percent, which is in just the 20th percentile in the MLB. The Guardians need to take their walks in this game. They are usually a free-swinging team, so the Guardians have to stay a bit more relaxed at the plate. If they can do that, they will win this game.
Bibee is having just an average season on the mound, but the Guardians love when he pitches. Cleveland is 7-1 in games Bibee starts, so he must be doing a great job keeping them in the game. In fact, Bibee has allowed three earned runs or fewer in five of his eight starts. If he can have another start like that, the Guardians will be able to win this game.
Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Rangers will win this game with their bats. They need their bats to come alive. Lorenzen is a good pitcher, and he is capable of having a good start, but the Rangers need to be solid at the plate. There is a good chance for that to happen in this game, though. Bibee is in the 11th percentile in barrel percentage, and he does not get many hitters to chase. Along with that, Bibee has allowed more hits than innings pitched this season. Among qualified pitchers, Bibee is 68th in WHIP. He will allow baserunners, and the Rangers need to take advantage of that.
Texas is sixth in batting average, and they are top-10 in OPS. The Rangers can do some real damage at the plate if the opposing pitcher is not careful. They are great at making contact in the zone, and they do not chase many pitches off the plate. If the Rangers have one of their better offensive games it is going to be very hard to beat them.
Final Guardians-Rangers Prediction & Pick
I would not be surprised to see the over hit in this one. In fact, the over is a pretty good play. However, my play is going to be the Rangers moneyline. I like Texas to do enough damage at the plate to take home a win and give the Guardians their second loss when Bibee pitches.
