Why The Guardians Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Guardians have been great this season with a 42-22 heading into this series. Their bats are now in the middle of the pack, while their pitching has been a top-10 staff. Steven Kwan, Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez, Tyler Freeman, and Josh Naylor have carried the Guardians on offense. Tanner Bibee, Triston McKenzie, and Ben Lively have held down the fort in the pitching staff despite Shane Bieber getting Tommy John Surgery. They have been one of the best teams in the MLB this season, and not just the AL.
The Guardians are starting Tanner Bibee as a pitcher and he has a 4-1 record, a 3.73 ERA, and a 1.19 WHIP. Bibee has allowed 30 runs on 64 hits with 19 walks and 76 strikeouts through 70 innings. In his 13 starts, the Guardians are 11-2. Bibee has been great on the mound for the Guardians and has been a good luck charm with the Guardians consistently winning with him on the mound. He gets a favorable matchup against the Reds with how much their offense has struggled this season.
The Guardians are a talented team behind the plate but cooled off recently. They are 16th in team batting average at .238 after finishing last season at .259. The offense is led by Jose Ramirez in almost every batting category. Ramirez leads the way in batting average at .275, in home runs at 18, in RBI at 62, in OBP at .336, and in hits at 69. This offense has shown flashes, but they get a difficult matchup against Nick Lodolo with how well he has played this season.
Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Reds have struggled to start the season and have a 32-34 record. They come into this series off a loss that broke a seven-game winning streak. The Reds have struggled to get going behind the plate, ranking as one of the worst teams. Their pitching has been better and is in the middle of the league's pack. Spencer Steer, Elly De La Cruz, Will Benson, Jeimer Candelario, and Jake Fraley have been standouts in a struggling offense this season. Andrew Abbott, Hunter Greene, and Nick Lodolo have all been at varying levels of good for the Reds on the mound. The Reds have had their fair share of struggles, but they are playing much better recently.

The Reds have struggled across the board behind the plate this season. They are ranked 27th in batting average at .227 after they finished with a .249 batting average just one season ago. Elly De La Cruz, Jonathan India, and Spencer Steer lead the way in most batting categories. India leads the way in batting average at .243, and in OBP at .358. De La Cruz leads the way in home runs at 11 and in hits at 57. Finally, Steer leads the way in RBI at 40. This offense gets a tough matchup against Tanner Bibee for the Guardians.
Final Guardians-Reds Prediction & Pick
The Guardians are the better team, but thanks to Lodolo the Reds should keep things close. Neither offense is anything special, but the Guardians are better. Lodolo has the pitching advantage over Bibee, but it's close. Thanks to Lodolo and the game being in Cincinnati, expect the Reds to cover, even if the Guardians might still win the game.
