The Carolina Hurricanes look to stave off elimination as they visit the New York Rangers. It is time to continue our NHL odds series with a Hurricanes-Rangers Game 5 prediction and pick.

The Hurricanes are still on the brink of elimination. After game one in which the Hurricanes tried to make a comeback, the Hurricanes found themselves down 1-0 in the series. In game two the Hurricanes had the lead, but the Rangers would tie it up, forcing overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the Rangers scored in the second overtime to make it a 2-0 series lead. Game three of the series moved to Carolina. This time, it was the Hurricanes with the late goal to tie the game, but Artemi Panarin would score in overtime to give the Rangers the 3-0 series lead. Facing elimination in game 4, the Hurricanes came out hot. They scored twice in the first seven minutes and would lead 3-1 after the first period. The Rangers scored in the second, then tied it up in the third. Still, the Hurricanes would score on a Brady Skjei power-play goal. It would be the game-winner, as the Hurricanes won 4-3.

Why The Hurricanes Will Cover The Spread/Win

Sebastian Aho has been amazing in this series. He has six assists, and a goal so far in the series with the Rangers.  Aho now has three goals and seven assists in the playoffs. He has not been a power-play factor though, with no power-play points. In the regular season, Aho led the team with 36 goals, 53 assists, and 89 total points. He also scored 11 times and had 21 assists on the power play. Jake Guentzel is also having a great series.  He has three goals and two assists so far in the series with the Rangers. The mid-season acquisition has been solid in the playoffs, with four goals and five assists. He also has two power-play assists.  He had eight goals and 17 assists in 17 games with the Hurricanes in the regular season.

The Hurricanes have also gotten solid production from Seth Jarvis. So far, he has four goals and four assists for eight total points. He also scored a goal in game one of the series, adding to his total, but he has not had a point since. Jarvis was solid in the regular season. He scored 33 times and 34 assists in the regular season. He also had 13 goals and seven assists on the power play.  Martin Necas also scored in game one of the series but has not scored since. He has two goals and four assists so far in the playoffs. Also, he has two assists on the power play. Necas was solid in the regular season. He had 24 goals and 29 assists in the regular season.

The Hurricanes moved to Pyotr Kochetkov in game three of the series against the Rangers. After he allowed three goals on 25 shots in the loss, the Hurricanes went back to Frederik Andersen. He would allow three goals on 25 shots as well, but the Hurricanes got the game-four win. Still, Andersen has not been great in the series. He has not had a game over .900 in save percentage, resulting in a 1-2 record so far.

Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win

Mika Zibanejad is having an amazing playoff season. He has scored three times with ten assists so far in the playoffs. He scored twice against the Hurricanes in game one and has added four assists in the series as well. Further, Zibanejad has two goals and five assists on the power play this playoff year. Zibanejad had 26 goals and 46 assists during the regular season. He was also solid on the power play, with 12 goals and 19 assists. Vincent Trocheck is also playing well. He has two goals and four assists against the Hurricanes so far and now has five goals and seven assists in the playoffs. Trocheck was great in the regular season. He scored 25 times and had 52 assists. Further, he had 11 goals and 13 assists on the power play.

Artemi Panarin has acted twice so far in the series and now has four assists as well. Last time out was the first time this series Panarin has not had a point. In the regular season, Panarin led the team with 49 goals, 71 assists, and a total of 20 points.  He has three goals and four assists now in the playoffs. Chris Kreider is also having a good playoff season, with four goals and three assists. He was third on the team in points this year with 39 goals and 36 assists. Further, Alexis Lafreniere now has four goals and six assists in the playoffs so far.

Igor Shesterkin struggled for the second time in this series. In game one, he had just a .880 save percentage, but still took the win. Last time out, he allowed four goals on 31 shots in the loss. Still, he allowed just five goals on 104 shots combined in games two and three combined.

Final Hurricanes-Rangers Prediction & Pick

The Rangers can end the series in this game. Overall, Igor Shesterkin has been solid in this series, and there is no reason to doubt that he will return to his solid form in this game. This has been a very close series, even though it is a 3-1 lead for the Rangers. There have been two overtime games, and the other two were one-goal games. The best play in this game is not on a side though. Only once in this series has the total not gone over 5.5. It will go over again tonight.
