The Los Angeles Angels take on the Atlanta Braves. Check out our MLB odds series for our Angels Braves prediction and pick.

Patrick Sandoval goes to the mound for the Angels, while Kyle Wright gets the start for the Braves.

Patrick Sandoval's ERA is exactly three runs. He had a 1.79 ERA for the season on May 22, so his ERA has gone up 1.21 runs since then. His pitching in the month of June was still superb. He registered a 2.49 ERA in that particular month. Only in July has he begun to show some erosion. The Astros (July 2) and Dodgers (July 15) knocked him around to push his ERA into the three-run range. This is a very important start for Sandoval. If he bounces back against the defending World Series champions, who are playing great baseball, Sandoval will know that he is still on the right track and performing at the level he expects of himself.

Kyle Wright has a 2.95 ERA. The past month and a half have produced a roller-coaster ride for Wright. His ERA was 2.39 on June 7. His next three starts pushed his ERA up to 3.18. He gave up 12 earned runs in 17 1/3 innings across those three starts. Then, on June 29, he began a sequence of four starts in which he chopped his ERA under three runs again. In his last four starts, he has pitched 25 innings and allowed only six earned runs. He has pitched at least seven innings in three of his last four starts. He is generating momentum, but as we saw when he got his ERA down to 2.39, positive momentum didn't last very long. Can Wright sustain a good trend for a longer period of time? Locking down the weak-hitting Angels is something he ought to be able to achieve.

Why The Angels Could Cover the Spread

The Angels continue to disappoint on a large scale. They're obviously not the better team. They're playing the World Series champions. How can they cover the spread? Simple: They have a breakout game after all their low-output offensive performances. Over a 162-game baseball season, the odds get chucked aside and bad teams beat good teams. The Angels are due for a game which goes their way. Moreover, Kyle Wright needs to prove he can be more consistent for the Braves. He might not pitch his best, and if that happens, Patrick Sandoval can outduel him and bring home a win for Los Angeles.

Why The Braves Could Cover the Spread

This is not complicated. The Braves are a vastly superior team, playing at home, and riding the wave of a month and a half of great baseball to pull within 1.5 games of the New York Mets in the National League East. Kyle Wright is pitching well, and he is going up against an Angel batting order which has been horrible over the past two months of the season. Need we say more?

Final Angels-Braves Prediction & Pick

A very good team is hosting a bad team, with a pitcher (Kyle Wright) who is performing well. Don't overthink this one and go with the Braves, who should be able to feast on another weak opponent at home.

Final Angels-Braves Prediction & Pick: Braves -1.5
