The Los Angeles Angels take on the Seattle Mariners in Game 2 of a doubleheader. Check out our MLB odds series for our Angels Mariners prediction and pick.
Jose Suarez takes the hill for the Angels in Game 2, while the Mariners have not yet announced a starter for this game.
Jose Suarez has made just six appearances for the Angels this year, pitching 22 2/3 innings. He has appeared in only two games since April 30, and only one game since May 18. It is hard to say how well he will pitch, and it is hard to say what kind of rhythm or fluidity he will have. Going up against an as-of-yet unannounced starter for the Mariners, Suarez — just like the rest of us — doesn't really know what to expect in this game.

Why The Angels Could Cover the Spread
The Angels have had a nightmarish three-week stretch, but it's a very long season, and at some point, these bats have to wake up once again. It goes against the odds that Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani and Tyler Wade and other talented hitters are unable to hit with runners in scoring position on a regular basis. Friday night, Robbie Ray of the Mariners briefly flirted with a no-hitter against the Angels, who could not build momentum off a Thursday win in Seattle. It simply defies description how consistently bad the Angels have been for a full month. They are going to play better baseball at some point, and with the Mariners not having announced a starter for this second game of Saturday's split-session doubleheader, the Angels have to feel that they will get hittable pitches to hit and can develop some momentum as they continue with this five-game weekend series in the Pacific Northwest.
Why The Mariners Could Cover the Spread
After winning Friday night, the Mariners got back on track. They know this is a massive series for them. They have to climb to second place in the American League West before they can entertain visions of getting an American League wild card spot. The Mariners need to dig out of the big hole they have created for themselves. Beating up on the Angels while they are struggling is an absolutely essential part of that process. If the Mariners can't feast on the Angels, they are not going to be able to make an upward move in the standings. They have lost their last two series, to the Red Sox and Twins, so they know they need to win this series. The urgency of the moment, combined with Jose Suarez's lack of form and absence of results for the Angels, provides Seattle with a path to victory in this contest.
Final Angels-Mariners Prediction & Pick
Game 1 of this doubleheader was tied 2-2 in the eighth inning when this prediction article was published. If one team wins Game 1, the other team is a better pick in Game 2 simply because there's a little bit more of an edge in the dugout before that second game. One team wants to strike back after a gut-punch loss in the opener. That point aside, the over seems like the play here. Suarez isn't good or in rhythm. The Mariners' pitching situation is a mystery. This seems like a game which will explode with offense.
Final Angels-Mariners Prediction & Pick: Over 8.5
