The Blue Jays and Tigers meet in an AL battle! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Blue Jays-Tigers prediction and pick.
The Toronto Blue Jays are rolling right now. After a slow start, the Jays have picked up their pace and won seven of their last 10 games. They are (34-23) on the season but what is unfortunate is they are still 7.5 games back from the New York Yankees. Will anyone catch the Yanks this season? The Blue Jays and or the Houston Astros might be the only two AL teams that could.
The Detroit Tigers on the other hand are really struggling. Detroit is (23-34) on the season and is fourth in the AL Central Division. The Tigers are (5-5) in their last 10 games which is a sign that they are competing and finding ways to win lately. If the Tigers' rotation can improve a little this lineup has the capability of putting up some runs.

Why The Blue Jays Could Cover The Spread
Right-hander Kevin Gausman will be on the mound for the Jays in this matchup. He is (5-4) with a 2.78 ERA in 64.2 innings pitched. The former Giant signed with the Jays during the offseason and it was one of the better additions in all of baseball. His veteran presence has done wonders to this rotation which now contains at least three legit starters with Gausman, Jose Berrios, and Alex Manoah. Manoah has turned himself into one of the top young pitchers in the game as his ERA is currently at 1.81.
Article Continues BelowNot only is the rotation on fire in Toronto, but the lineup contains some of the best young stars in the game as well. Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. lead the way but their average is not where they want it. They are both hitting under .270 on the season but have a combined 23 home runs and 64 RBIs. George Springer has picked up his pace after missing the start of the season. In just 195 ABs, Springer has 12 homers with 32 RBIs which is tied for the team lead along with the two mentioned above. With Santiago Espinal playing well at second and Matt Chapman locking down third base, this lineup is stacked.
Why The Tigers Could Cover The Spread
The Tigers will have a tough job covering this spread unless they get to Gausman early in the game. On the bump for Detroit is right-hander Beau Brieske who is off to a rough start to the season and his career. He is (0-5) on the year with a 4.93 ERA in 42 innings. The team has only won one of his starts but he finished with a no-decision in the 7-5 win over the Minnesota Twins. Brieske will have a hard time putting this lineup away if he doesn't have his best stuff.
The lineup for the Tigers is filled with talent. Their issue this season is they have not been able to put it all together at once. Detroit is 28th in team batting average at just .220 and is dead last in home runs with only 30. The New York Yankees as a team has 88 homers. Put that into perspective.
Miguel Cabrera is doing just fine hitting .297 on the season with three homers and 20 RBIs. However, now one on the roster has more than five home runs and none has more RBIs than Cabrera. It's been a sad season at the plate for the Tigers even though it seems like they have the talent to do better.
Spencer Torkelson may need more time to adjust to the big league level. The same can be said about Jeimer Candelario even though he is 28 now. Javy Baez needs to step up. Batting just .196 is not going to do it and if weren't for his name, he would probably be sent down to the minors with how poorly he is playing.
