The San Francisco Giants take on the Colorado Rockies. Check out our MLB odds series for our Giants Rockies prediction and pick.

Alex Cobb takes the bump for the Giants, while Chad Kuhl gets the ball for the Rockies.

Alex Cobb has a 3.98 ERA. The Giants aren't asking too much of him this early in the season. They want five innings and no severe damage allowed. In three of his five appearances this season, Cobb has succeeded. He is a five-inning, two-run pitcher, more or less. It will be interesting to see if he can pitch into the sixth or seventh inning at any point in the near future. Given that this game is in Coors Field, one should not expect Cobb to incrase his workload on this particular night.

Chad Kuhl has a 2.88 ERA. He has been terrific for the Rockies in the first five weeks of the season. In his first five starts, he did not give up more than three runs, and he pitched at least six innings in four of them. He has been a workhorse for Colorado. Yet, the one bad start in his six appearances so far this year is his most recent one, and of course, it came against the Giants, who touched him up for five runs in 4 2/3 innings on May 11. This is something to keep in mind when you make a Giants Rockies prediction based on the Giants Rockies odds presented to you.

Why The Giants Could Cover the Spread

The Giants have won 11 straight games against the Rockies. That kind of dominance needs no further explanation when contemplating the Giants Rockies odds and your play on this game.

The other relevant point to bring up in support of a Giants pick against the spread is that while Chad Kuhl has been very good for the Rockies this season, the Giants got to him last week. The Giants simply see the ball really well coming out of Kuhl's hand. This is a locked-in team at the plate right now. San Francisco is not getting its very best pitching, but the Giants are hitting well after going through a slump a few weeks ago. Chad Kuhl is not going to be enough to stop San Francisco.

All of this aside, we go back to a simple point: You can try to be the hero and correctly predict the moment when the Rockies finally do beat the Giants, but with a streak like this, you go with the proven betting winner until proven otherwise.

Why The Rockies Could Cover the Spread

After 11 straight losses to the Giants, the Rockies are going to break this streak. The MLB odds suggest that teams don't win 12 straight games against one opponent very often. The Rockies can't keep losing to the same opponent without interruption. Let's realize that the Rockies are an average team which has hovered near (usually over) .500 for most of the season to date. We're not talking about the Cincinnati Reds or Detroit Tigers or several other teams well below .500. Colorado is a decent team, and decent teams eventually scratch out a win against superior opponents.

The other reason to take the Rockies: Chad Kuhl got smoked last week by the Giants. He will adjust and figure things out at home. He has been so solid for Colorado this season. He isn't going to get shredded twice in a week by Giant hitters.

Final Giants-Rockies Prediction & Pick

If you pick the Rockies and lose, you will be annoyed. If you pick the Giants and lose, you can say, “That's baseball.” Frankly, you should stay away from this game given the streak involved, but if you have to pick, the Giants are the reliable team here. The Rockies are not.

Final Giants-Rockies Prediction & Pick: Giants -1.5
