The New York Mets take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Check out our MLB odds series for our Mets Dodgers prediction and pick.

Trevor Williams will start for the Mets, while Julio Urias takes the hill for the Dodgers.

Trevor Williams has a 3.58 ERA, but that doesn't mean a whole lot. Williams has thrown under 28 innings this season. He has pitched into the fifth inning in only one of his nine appeareances. He relieved games in April before being moved to a starter's role in May. Williams has established himself as an all-or-nothing pitcher. In four disastrous outings, Williams pitched 10 2/3 innings and allowed 13 runs. In his other 17 innings pitched so far this season, he hasn't allowed a single run. In four of his last five appearances, Williams has not been scored upon. In the fifth appearance, he allowed four runs in four innings. Again, he is an all-or-nothing pitcher in 2022. This has to be included in any assessment of a Mets Dodgers prediction based on the current MLB odds.

Julio Urias has a 2.89 ERA. He has delivered seven high-quality starts and three mediocre-to-bad ones so far this season. One thing which is notable is that after his first two subpar starts, Urias responded well in his next start. He gave up six runs in his first start on April 10. In his next start: five scoreless innings. He was shredded for eight runs on May 14. In his next start: five scoreless innings. Now Urias is coming off a lackluster outing in which he gave up two loud home runs to the Pirates in Pittsburgh's shocking road sweep of the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Urias will try to once again bounce back from a poor start. In his seven strong starts this season, he has pitched 39 innings and allowed only five runs. The vast majority of the time, Urias pitches well, but he is not immune to bad days at the office. Keep this in mind when making a Mets Dodgers pick.

Why The Mets Could Cover the Spread

The Mets got back on track Saturday night, pummeling the Dodgers after losing the first two games of this series on Thursday and Friday. We keep mentioning whenever we discuss the 2022 Mets that Buck Showalter's team just doesn't have prolonged funks. The team doesn't endure long losing streaks. If it has a bad game or two, it bounces back. The stability of the Mets, without Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom, speaks to the well-rounded and balanced nature of this team. Trevor Williams embodies the versatility of this team. Players do whatever they can to contribute, even if it's not in a conventional form. This is a top-tier World Series contender, and it will find a way to split the four-game series in L.A.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover the Spread

After Saturday's loss, the Dodgers — who responded well to getting swept by the Pirates, winning the first two games of this four-game set against the Mets — will be ready to answer the bell. Julio Urias occasionally has bad starts, but not consecutive bad starts. He is a more trustworthy pitcher than Trevor Williams, and is the main reason the Dodgers will win.

Final Mets-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

If Urias follows his historical pattern of pitching well after a bad outing, the Dodgers are the better play here.

Final Mets-Dodgers Prediction & Pick: Dodgers -1.5
