The San Diego Padres will face the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Padres-Giants prediction and pick.
The Padres have gotten off to as good a start as any team in the MLB. San Diego has won four straight games after an opening-day loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now they'll look to secure a series victory over the rival Giants.
San Francisco hasn't enjoyed quite the same success as the Padres. The Giants are only 2-2 on the year after Monday's loss to San Diego. While it is early in the season, series against divisional rivals still carry a ton of weight. San Francisco needs to defend their home field here to keep pace with the rest of the incredibly competitive NL West.

Why the Padres Could Win
The Padres have been one of the best offensive teams in the MLB to start the season. San Diego's hitters currently combine to hit .256 with a .350 OBP. While those numbers are obviously inflated because the Padres have only played a handful of games, they're still pretty impressive. Making things even better is the fact that San Diego has hit .278 against right-handed pitching, and the Giants are set to deploy righty Alex Cobb in this contest.
San Diego starter Yu Darvish should fare well on Tuesday. The Giants haven't had much success offensively, as they've scored more than four runs in only one game this season. As a team, San Francisco is only hitting .213 with an OBP of .292. Both of those numbers rank inside the bottom half of the MLB. Darvish has also come out of the gates hot in his last couple of seasons, as shown by his 2.13 ERA in April of the 2021 season. Expect a quality start at the very least from Darvish.
Why the Giants Could Win
The Giants can also expect a quality outing from their starter. Alex Cobb had a great 2021 season, as he earned a 3.76 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP over 18 starts. Cobb's numbers when he pitched at home were even better. The former Los Angeles Angel earned a 2.22 ERA while allowing a .192 batting average to opposing hitters on his home field. Now Cobb will get the chance to slow down one of the better offenses in the league at Oracle Park.
Historically, San Francisco has played very well against Darvish. In his last two outings against the Giants, the righty allowed a combined 12 runs over nine innings. San Francisco also has several hitters who have a career batting average of .333 or higher against Darvish. It helps that Darvish's road stats last season were horrific. He posted a 5.54 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in his starts away from Petco Park. This could be the first time we see the Giants really swing the bat well this season.
Final Padres-Giants Prediction & Pick
This game will be close. However, the Giants have the more reliable pitcher on the mound and home-field advantage. Cobb should slow down the Padres, and the San Francisco lineup will hit Darvish well. Take the Giants here.
