The Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins are set for Game 2! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Phillies-Marlins prediction and pick.
The Phillies took Game 1 last night by the score of 2-1. The lineup got to Sandy Alacantara which was a rare thing to see this season. It took them all the way until the 7th innings, however, as Alcantara looked dominant to start the game. Kyle Gibson pitched an elite game for the Phillies as he only allowed one run, which came on a sacrifice fly. JT Realmuto knocked three hits against his former squad which helped the Phillies take the first game of the series. Philadelphia improves to (47-43) and the Marlins (43-46).

Why The Phillies Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowThe Phillies are sending out left-hander Ranger Suarez who is (6-5) on the season. In 79 innings, Suarez has a 4.33 ERA and WHIP of 1.46. Suarez hasn't pitched since June 29 against the Atlanta Braves. Now, he's expected to start after a few weeks and he hopes to get back on track. He allowed four runs against the Braves in his last start. Suarez will hope to give them a quality start as he did in his last two starts.
Realmuto was huge in last night's game. Without Bryce Harper, the Phillies are going to struggle and need players like Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber to pick up the slack. Nick Castellanos and Rhys Hoskins are slowly improving as they both lead the team in hits. Schwarber has 28 home runs on the season and it will be fun to see him in the Home Run Derby on Monday. If Schwarber is able to smash one here tonight against a rookie then the Phillies will have a chance to cover this spread.
Why The Marlins Could Cover The Spread
Pitching for the Marlins tonight and making his major league debut is right-hander Max Meyer. The 23-year-old was a first-round draft pick back in 2020 and was the third player taken on the board. The top prospect has been on a tear this season striking out 69 batters in 61 innings and has a WHIp of 0.97. His ERA is 3.69 but that doesn't do him justice as he had only two bad outings all year long. Meyers comes up to an already elite pitching staff and should fit right in giving opposing hitters fits.
We all know the pitching staff for the Marlins is one of the best in the game. It's the offense that has them struggling to win games. Last night was a great example, their only run came on a sac fly to center in the second inning. This offense has only scored more than five runs twice this entire month and will hope to pick it up again. Jesus Aguilar is batting .248 on the year and leads the team in ABs. Newly added All-Star Garrett Cooper is shockingly picking up the slack for this offense batting .291 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. He leads the team in hits and will hope to attack the lefty today and propel the Marlins to a win.
Final Phillies-Marlins Prediction & Pick
This game could go either way and I expect the Phillies to get the job done once again. They only won by one last night, but I think they win this game by at least two on the road.
Final Phillies-Marlins Prediction & Pick: Phillies -1.5 (+152)
