The New York Yankees will host the Philadelphia Phillies for the first of a two-game set at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Phillies-Yankees prediction and pick.

These teams are in a similar position as they're both looking up in their respective divisions despite their recent success. The Phillies are 47-45 thanks to wins in seven of their last 10 games. New York is coming off of a huge series win against the AL East leading Boston Red Sox and now sit 7.5 games back in the division.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Phillies-Yankees odds.

Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+118)

New York Yankees +1.5 (-138)

Over 9 Runs (-110)

Under 9 Runs (-110)

Why The Phillies Could Cover The Spread

The Philadelphia Phillies are fighting to stay alive in the NL East and now sit just 2.5 games back of the New York Mets for the division lead. The Phillies have been red hot over the last couple of weeks with wins in five of their last six games to date. They will have a nice opportunity to continue their recent success as they've defeated the Yankees in four of their last five head-to-head matchup's.

Philadelphia's achilles heel has been road games this season. They are 10 games over .500 at home and eight games under .500 on the road. The Phillies pitching staff has really struggled, allowing just under five runs per game away from home. Philadelphia will certainly look to improve their -0.34 average road run differential in this quick road trip to the Bronx.

The Phillies will send right-hander Aaron Nola to the bump for the series opener. Nola has had a mediocre season with a 6-5 record and 4.53 ERA through 18 starts. He has struck out 126 batters over 101.1 innings of work, which is promising for the Phillies ace. Nola has struggled recently 11 earned runs allowed over his last 10.2 innings of work against the Marlins and Cubs.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The New York Yankees have shown over their last two series that they aren't going to throw in the towel. The Yankees are actually playing solid baseball over their last two series with wins against the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox. New York has won seven of their last 10 games to improve their record to 48-44. They are now four games back of the second wild card spot in the American League.

The Yankees have had injury issues all year long and now with many key guys on the shelf because of COVID, they are getting a good long look at some prospects. With some scrappy Minor Leaguers getting an opportunity, New York seems to be playing with some life again. The Yankees defeated Boston on Sunday night by bunting, stealing bases, and hitting long balls.

New York will look to keep it going as they send right-hander Domingo German to the bump. German is 4-5 with a 4.72 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 18 appearances and 15 starts. The Yankees starter has really struggled with a 9.28 ERA over his last seven outings to date. German will make his return to the rotation after making his last three appearances out of the bullpen.

Final Phillies-Yankees Prediction & Pick

I'm siding with the over in a game that features two struggling pitchers and surging offenses. Aaron Nola hasn't pitched well on the road this season and enters with a 8.35 ERA over his last four starts. Domingo German was yanked from the rotation, which tells you all you need to know about his recent struggles. The Yankees put up nine runs on Sunday and seemed to figure out how to put runs on the board without nine gigantic right-handed sluggers. The Phillies have scored at least four runs in eight of their last 10 games and should have no problem getting to German.

FINAL PHILLIES-YANKEES PREDICTION AND PICK: Over 9 Runs (-110)
