The Colorado Rockies take on the San Francisco Giants. Check out our MLB odds series for our Rockies Giants prediction and pick.
Austin Gomber starts for the Rockies, while Carlos Rodon gets the call for the Giants.
Austin Gomber has a 3.58 ERA. In his first two starts, encompassing a total of nine innings, Gomber allowed eight runs. In his last three starts, which covered 18 2/3 innings, Gomber allowed five runs, so he is improving. He has allowed 26 hits in 27 innings pitched; he needs to get hitters to swing and miss more.
Carlos Rodon has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He has a 1.55 ERA. He gave up only three runs in the month of April, based on four starts. He walked eight hitters but struck out 38. Rodon has not yet allowed a home run this year. He has not given up more than two runs in any of his five starts. He has been brilliant for San Francisco.

Why The Rockies Could Cover the Spread
The National League West has been a weird division except for the Los Angeles Dodgers. You never quite know what to expect from the non-Dodger teams in this division. The San Diego Padres are winning without Fernando Tatis. They are playing the high-level baseball most people expected them to play last year, but are doing so without as much firepower in their lineup. The Arizona Diamondbacks are getting far-better-than-expected starting pitching from guys other than Madison Bumgarner. Everyone is wondering how long the D-Backs can keep this up.
If a lot of surprising plot twists are defining the N.L. West through five weeks of baseball, why not take the Rockies over the Giants? San Francisco has lost a home-field series to the Washington Nationals and has struggled for much of the past 10 days. The Rockies had a miserable weekend in Phoenix against the Diamondbacks and could bounce back here. This is something to think about when making a Rockies Giants prediction.
Why The Giants Could Cover the Spread
After playing terrible baseball for a full week (Friday, April 29 through Friday, May 6), the Giants have snapped back into alignment. It helps that Brandon Belt and LaMonte Wade are back in the lineup. Injuries and COVID-19 complications formed a part of the explanation for why the Giants were so bad last week. It's not the full explanation, but it's a significant part of the story. The Giants are a more complete team with both guys back in action, and a pair of wins over the weekend against a good St. Louis Cardinal team indicate that San Francisco is on the mend.
What you should also note in a Rockies Giants pick is that Carlos Rodon is Filthy McNasty. He is a legitimate Cy Young Award contender based on the first month of the season. He is a workhorse who is dominating hitters and not giving up long balls in a sport where staying away from the home run is a supreme attribute for a pitcher. He isn't giving up much of anything, and crucially, his walk-strikeout ratio is lights-out, one of the best in the sport. He is worth trusting.
Final Rockies-Giants Prediction & Pick
Ride Carlos Rodon. Don't overthink it. This will be good advice during the year, not just in this game.
Final Rockies-Giants Prediction & Pick: Giants -1.5
