The Nationals make the trip to Chicago to face the White Sox! These two teams are both inconsistent, but the Nationals still have some potential, while the White Sox might be one of the worst teams in the entire MLB. Our MLB odds series has our Nationals-White Sox prediction, odds, and pick for Tuesday.

The Nationals have been one of the most inconsistent teams so far this season. They sit at a 19-20 record heading into this series and have lost two straight and three out of their last four games. Their pitching has been very good, just outside of the top 10 in the MLB, but their bats have struggled this season. Jesse Winker, CJ Abrams, Joey Meneses, and Luis Garcia Jr. have stood out for an average offense this season in the capital. Trevor Williams, MacKenzie Gore, and Jake Irvin have all been solid up to this point for the staff and have carried the team at times this season. The Nationals have talent, but it has been difficult to put it all together this season. They still have time, but they have been frustrating overall.

The White Sox are competing with the Rockies and Marlins for the title of worst team in the MLB so far this season. They have a 12-26 record so far this season, but they have played better recently, having lost their first game in five games. They are the worst team in the MLB behind the plate and are also struggling on the mound, ranking near the bottom in pitching as well. Gavin Sheets, Paul DeJong, Andrew Vaughn, and Andrew Benintendi are standouts on an awful offense, while the only notable pitchers in the lineup are Erick Fedde and Chris Flexen. The White Sox have struggled this season, but they have been playing better recently.

Why The Nationals Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Nationals are starting Mitchell Parker on the mound in this game and he has a 2-1 record, a 2.67 ERA, and a 1.07 WHIP. Through 27 innings, Parker has allowed eight runs on 24 hits with five walks and 22 strikeouts. The Nationals are 3-2 in the five games that he's appeared in this season. In his last start against the Orioles, he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts in a win. Mitchell Parker has been very good for the Nationals and a key piece on a good pitching staff. He also gets a very good matchup against a struggling White Sox offense.

The offense for the Nationals has been subpar this season. They are 22nd in the MLB in team batting average at .228 after having a team batting average of .254 last season. Luis Garcia Jr., CJ Abrams, and Jesse Winker stand out and lead the way in most of the batting categories. Luis Garcia Jr. leads the way in batting average at .297 and in RBI at 20. Abrams then leads the way in home runs at seven and in total hits at 41. Winker then leads the way in OBP at .350. Their offense has been inconsistent and they get a tough matchup against Erick Fedde for the White Sox.

Why The White Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

The White Sox are starting Erick Fedde on the mound where he has a 3-0 record, a 3.00 ERA, and a 1.16 WHIP. In his eight appearances this season, the White Sox are 4-4 this season. In his last start, he pitched six innings and gave up zero runs on six hits with zero walks and three strikeouts. Fedde has been the biggest bright spot for the White Sox in their pitching staff, despite all their struggles.

The offense for the White Sox has been nothing short of awful this season. The White Sox are last in the MLB in team batting average at .213 after having a team batting average of .238 last season. Gavin Sheets, Andrew Benintendi, Andrew Vaughn, and Paul DeJong lead the way for the offense in most categories. Sheets leads the way in batting average at .242 and at .348. Andrew Benintendi then leads in RBI at 14, DeJong leads the way with six home runs so far, and Vaughn leads the way in hits at 30. The White Sox offense gets a tough matchup in this spot against Mitchell Parker who has been very good for the Nationals on the mound.

Final Nationals-White Sox Prediction & Pick

The key in this game is pitching. Parker has been very good for the Nationals, while Fedde is the best pitcher for the White Sox. This game is going to be close because of that. The Nationals have the better offense, but this is going to be a pitching duel. Expect the White Sox to cover at home, even though the Nationals might still win the game.
