Why The Cavaliers Could Cover The Spread

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a very tough schedule so far. Through seven games they have faced and beaten some of the best teams in the league. They are coming off back to back losses to some of the best teams in the Western conference. The Cavs will look to turn things around against another tough opponent. In their last match up against Charlotte, Cleveland lost by 11. If the Cavs hope to win this game they will need to have learned from that game and come into Monday night ready.

The Cavs don't have a superstar to lead their team. They are young and while they have a lot of talent they lack a leader to make them an extremely competitive team. That being said, Colin Sexton is currently one of the best players on the team. He has had a very productive career so far. Sexton enters his fourth season looking to take the next step. The point guard has had a slow start to this season and will look to pick things up against Charlotte. If Sexton gets going then the Cavs could be in a position to win this game.

Another impact player has been the rookie Evan Mobley. The Cavs selected Mobley with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 draft and it seems to have been a good move. Mobley has been given an opportunity to be an impact player for this Cleveland team and he has capitalized on that. The rookie is averaging over 13 points and nearly 8 rebounds a game. He is also getting 32 minutes of playing time on average. The Cavs have not eased Mobley into his role on the team and that seems to have been the best strategy. If Mobley can keep up his performance then things will be looking good for Cleveland.

Why The Hornets Could Cover The Spread

The Charlotte Hornets have quietly become one of the best teams in the league. They are young and extremely talented. The potential for the Hornets is enormous. The Hornets are coming off a 12 point win against the Blazers. They completely shut down Damian Lillard and dominated Portland. Charlotte has been very good this season and will look to bring that momentum into Monday's matchup.

The face and leader of the Hornets is LaMelo Ball. Charlotte drafted LaMelo to take over and run this team, and he has done just that. Ball is coming off a 27 point, 9 rebound, and 7 assist performance against Portalnd. The second year guard is improving on his rookie of the year season and will look to dominate the Cavs. The Hornets have made it clear that they are going to be top competitors this season. LaMelo Ball is their leader and will look to help his team get another win.

The breakout player this year for Charlotte is, without a doubt, Miles Bridges. Bridges is cementing himself as a crucial part of the offense and partner to LaMelo. Bridges is averaging nearly double the points he averaged last season. Through seven games the fourth year forwards is averaging nearly 25 points and 8 rebounds a game. If Bridges can continue this, he will be a top candidate for most improved player by the end of this season. If Bridges and Ball get going then there's no stopping this Hornets team.

Final Cavaliers-Hornets Prediction & Pick

This is an easy decision. The Cavaliers have a lot of young pieces but are lacking direction. If they can add a star in this offseason or draft some top talent then they could be very competitive in future seasons. However, they lack that piece now and just aren't as good as the Hornets. Charlotte has done a great job of developing into a well rounded team that can dominate opponents. The Hornets will win this one. Pick Charlotte to win and cover and get ready to watch some good basketball.
