The Clippers head into Dallas tonight to take on a red-hot Mavericks team. It’s time to continue our NBA odds series with a Clippers-Mavericks prediction and pick.
Both teams are on opposite streaks heading into this game. The Dallas Mavericks are currently on a three-game winning streak, where they also covered the spread and the under in all three games. The LA Clippers are on a two-game losing streak, but 0-4 against the spread in their last four games. The last time these two teams met, the Mavericks beat the Clippers 112-104 back in late November.

Why The Clippers Can Cover The Spread
After a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, the Clippers are looking to get back in the win column as they sit right on the bubble of playoffs in 8th place in the West right now. They're an even 5-5 in their last ten matchups, but really need to pick up the pace if they have sights on securing a playoff position. Los Angeles is 11-16 on the road this season and just 14-21 against other western conference teams, but are 10-8 against the spread when they are road underdogs, much like how they are tonight. However, they've run into a hot Mavericks team who continues to climb up the Western Conference rankings. If Reggie Jackson and Norman Powell can stay on top of their defensive games tonight, they will help lead the Clippers tonight to overcome a 6.5 point underdog.
Why The Mavericks Can Cover The Spread
Luka Doncic and the Mavericks have won their last three games and continue to look up as they sit in the 5th seed in the West, just two games behind the Utah Jazz. They're coming off of a 30 point win over the Detroit Pistons, where they held them to only 37.9% of shooting from the field. Dallas is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games, and 10-8-1 against the spread this season when listed as home favorites. The Mavericks are one of the best defensive teams in the league, as they hold their opponents to just 100.6 points per game, on average. However, there are trade rumors circling around the locker room that involves star player, Kristaps Porzingis. Unless they get a good deal for him before the trade deadline today, Dallas will continue to utilize his size on both ends of the court.

Both teams are very defensively focused. In the two previous Clippers and Mavericks matchups this year, the total points scored were 188 and 216. However, the Clippers have gone over in five of their last six games, but the Mavericks have gone under in 14 of their last 20 games. Needless to say, the under 215.5, while a typically small number for an NBA game, is in play here – and I'm going to ride it. But don't be fooled, Luka Doncic will still be rolling and will probably end up scoring 30+ points on the Clippers tonight.
