Sunday afternoon in the Association will feature an exciting interconference matchup. It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Hawks-Clippers prediction and pick.

The Atlanta Hawks are coming off a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena. Opposite of last year, the Hawks are not playing well this season. It took them a few months to get it going last year, so there still is a chance we see the Hawks go on a streak. But for now, they are 17-21 which is good for 12th in the Eastern Conference. The Los Angeles Clippers are also coming off a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies last time out. They are without some of their stars so it will be on them to continue pushing with the players they have.

Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread

The Hawks really need to start going. Trae Young is tearing it up this season but the Hawks aren't seeing the results they did last season. Young is averaging 28.3 points which is good for 4th in the NBA. His 9.6 assists per game rank third in the league, and so he is one of the premier point guards in the NBA now. The former Sooner will need to find a way to defend better, but there clearly isn't much more he can do. Atlanta is 9-12 in road games this year and is 3-7 in their last 10 games. They are giving up an abysmal 118 points per game which is just not going to get it done. They can not let the Clippers score that many points or that is a very and sign. LA will be without Paul George, so they won't have much star power. If Atlanta wants to cover this spread, they need to defend better. The offense is fine but the defense is what is going to get them over this hump.

Why The Clippers Could Cover The Spread

LA can cover this spread if they find a way to score more points. In their last 10 games, they are averaging just 102 points per game which is not enough. They have a 3-7 record in their last 10 games but they are defending better than Atlanta lately. They are giving up 109 points per game which is reasonable considering their two best defenders (who happen to be their two best players) are out. The Clippers are seeing Marcus Morris Sr. and Reggie Jackson step up and they are playing very well. If they continue to play like they are, when George comes back, they should get back on track. Covid-19 is affecting players on both teams, so we will see who comes out and gets the job done on Sunday.

Final Hawks-Clippers Prediction & Pick

I'm going to take the Hawks to cover this spread and win on the road. The Clippers don't seem like they are prepared to continue to play without George and Kawhi Leonard. With that being said, take the Hawks as Young and company should get this win on the road.

Final Hawks-Clippers Prediction & Pick: Hawks -4 (-110)
