Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread

The Brooklyn Nets have been one of the best teams in the NBA. Through their first 24 games they are 17-7. While they have managed to win a good percentage of their games they haven't been dominant. They barely managed to beat the Dallas Mavericks in their last game, ultimately winning 102-99. The Rockets are definitely a step down from the Mavs and shouldn't be too much of a challenge for this Nets team. Brooklyn is definitely the better team and should be able to get a win on Wednesday.

In their win over Dallas, the Nets had the edge in almost every category. Brooklyn shot over 50% from the field and just over 30% from beyond the arc. They also went 10/13 from the free throw line. Where they really impressed was in rebounds. Brooklyn out-rebounded Dallas by 10, and this was a key factor in their victory. What they need to work on are turnovers. The Nets had 12 turnovers, while Dallas only had four. Brooklyn was able to overcome this, but only barely. If the Nets want to keep on winning games they need to limit their mistakes.

The leaders of this Nets team are Kevin Durant and James Harden. In their win over the Mavs, KD had 24 points and seven rebounds. While it wasn't an outstanding performance from Durant, he still managed to put up solid numbers. Against Dallas, Harden nearly had a triple-double with 23 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. This duo is one of the best in the NBA and will have a big impact on the outcome of this game. However, KD is out due to rest, while LaMarcus Aldridge is also sitting. Harden will be relied upon to show out against his former team.

Why The Rockets Could Cover The Spread

The Houston Rockets have not been having a good season. Through their first 23 games they are only 7-16. However, they have momentum on their side. The Rockets have won six straight. Their last victory came over the New Orleans Pelicans by 10. Houston will face a tough opponent on Wednesday, and if they hope to win they will need to kick things into high gear. The Rockets are underdogs going into this matchup but just might be able to pull off yet another upset.

In their win over New Orleans, Houston actually had some struggles. The two biggest things that stand out from that game are rebounds and turnovers. The Pelicans grabbed 10 more boards than the Rockets and had seven fewer turnovers. Houston was able to overcome this and still get the win for one reason, three pointers. The Rockets shot over 42% from beyond the arc in that game. This scoring onslaught was too much for the Pelicans to handle and is the reason that Houston won that game. The Rockets will need to play their A-game on Wednesday. If Houston can limit their turnovers and continue to rain threes then they might have a chance.

The two players that led this team to victory against New Orleans were Christian Wood and Eric Gordon. Christian Wood has become one of the premier big men in the league, and it showed against the Pelicans. Wood scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. While Eric Gordon looked like his former self. Gordon scored 23 points and dished out five assists. These two players were a big reason that the Rockets won that game and will likely play a big part in Wednesday's game. Expect this Rockets team to step up and try to take down one of the best teams in the league.

Final Nets-Rockets Prediction & Pick

This isn't too tough of a decision. Even though the Rockets have been hot lately, they are bound to lose. The Brooklyn Nets are just by far the better team and should have no problem getting this win. There is an off chance that the Rockets will pull off this upset, but the safer pick here is Brooklyn, even without KD and Aldridge. Pick the Nets to win and cover.
