The Phoenix Suns are still atop the NBA standings. They have won 11-straight games and don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. They are (41-9) on the season and are coming off a 10-point win over the Brooklyn Nets. The Atlanta Hawks are starting to catch fire themselves as they are now the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference at (24-26). They are coming off a loss to the Toronto Raptors last time out. Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

This will be a battle between two of the top point guards in the NBA. Chris Paul and Trae Young haven't faced each other much, but they almost went head-to-head in the NBA Finals last year if it wasn't for the Bucks finding a way to get past the Hawks in the ECF. Young is currently fourth in the NBA in scoring at 27.7 points per game. The Suns will need to find a way to contain hi. and not allow him to get off all those three-pointers. He's really the closest thing to Steph Curry that we have ever seen and that says a lot. The Hawks pretty much rely on Young to lead the team and so if the Suns force him to not be a factor, then the Suns will easily cover this spread on the road.

Phoenix is the top team in the NBA on the road this season, going 19-4. The good news for the Hawks is that they are 14-12 at home where they play a lot better. These two teams have already faced off earlier in the year in Phoenix where the Suns won a close 4-point game. Devin Booker scored 38 for the Suns and Young scored 31 in the loss. This rematch will be exciting to see because the Hawks are playing very well right now and both of these teams have lost one game in their last 19 combined. It's the Suns' defense that has been the major reason for their success, holding opponents to just 106 points per game, while averaging 118 themselves.

Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread

The Hawks will need to continue playing well but elevate their game just a little bit more. Atlanta is hosting the best overall team in the NBA right now. They are very hard to stop right now as they have rolled past 11-straight teams. The last time Phoenix lost was to the top-seed in the East, Miami Heat. Atlanta will need to contain Booker, Paul, and DeAndre Ayton who have formed into one of the most valuable big three's in the NBA. Booker is coming off of a 35-point outing against the Nets and Mikal Bridges notched 27 points and eight rebounds in the win. Bridges is a quiet assassin who is proving to be worth more than his current value. If he can get you 20+ a couple of times a week, then the Suns will be damn-near impossible to stop in the playoffs.

As for this game, the Hawks will need to play perfect. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games averaging 116 points per game. So they are right behind the Suns in scoring right now but it's the defense that is hurting them. They are allowing 110 points per game and that is not a good sign when the Suns are coming to town. The Hawks will need John Collins to improve off of his last performance where he finished 3-11 with six points. If Collins and Young are on their game, the Hawks might be within reach to cover this spread at home.

Final Suns-Hawks Prediction & Pick

The Suns are 28-22 against the spread while Atlanta is 22-28. This should be an easy choice here, take the Suns on the road and hope that Trae Young doesn't go off for 50 points to keep them in it. This should be a high-scoring game.

Final Suns-Hawks Prediction & Pick: Suns -4 (-110) & over: 226.5 (-108)
