The NBA continues Friday night as the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Indiana Pacers. It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Thunder-Pacers prediction and pick.

The Thunder are coming off a 20-point loss to the Phoenix Suns last night, It wasn't the greatest of games for the Thunder but they were without their star player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. OKC is now (18-41) on the season and is 14th in the Western Conference. The Indiana Pacers aren't much better as they are just (20-40) on the year and are 13th in the East. These two teams will likely earn top-5 picks in this year's NBA Draft. Let's get to tonight's prediction and pick.

Why The Thunder Could Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

OKC is one of the better teams in the NBA against the spread this season. Honestly, without SGA, that is the only thing they have going for them besides the rise of Josh Giddey. We all knew Giddey was going to play well during his rookie season, but I don't think anyone projected him to be playing this good. He's averaging 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.4 assists. He's an all-around type of player and once he and SGA get more chemistry together, OKC can become a much better team next season. The Thunder are not going anywhere this season, but at least they have a young core they can look forward to.

As mentioned above, OKC is elite ATS. They are (35-19-4) compared to the Indiana Pacers who are just (28-30-2). That is actually not a bad record for the Pacers considering they only have 20 wins on the season. OKC will need to make sure Tyrese Haliburton doesn't control the game offensively for the Pacers. Indiana doesn't have many other options who are healthy at the moment. So OKC should be able to cover this 7-point spread.

Why The Pacers Could Cover The Spread

The Pacers come into this game as the favorites at home. Considering both teams are pretty bad right now, this spread makes sense but I don't think the Pacers will actually win this game by more than seven points. Indiana is only (14-17) at home but they are much better than their (6-23) away record. OKC is as good as they are at home compared to the road this season. OKC is (9-21) on the road and so this should benefit the Pacers in this matchup.

Haliburton has averaged 20 points per game since he was traded here earlier in the month. He, Buddy Hield, and Chris Duarte are the min guys on that team now as Myles Turner's future with the team seems questionable. The Pacers still contain an elite backcourt, so that will be their factor in covering this spread tonight. They just need to make sure Giddey doesn't continue to impress against them tonight.

Final Thunder-Pacers Prediction & Pick

I think the Pacers have a legitimate shot at winning this game tonight. But because the Thunder remain in every game they are in (for the most part), I'm taking OKC to cover this spread on the road.

Final Thunder-Pacers Prediction & Pick: Thunder +7 (-114)
