Why The Warriors Could Cover The Spread
The Golden State Warriors have been one of the best teams in the NBA this season. Through their first 36 games, they have 29 wins and only seven losses. They are coming off back-to-back victories, with their most recent win coming against the Heat by 7. The Warriors have been on a roll this season and will look to continue to carry that same energy and momentum into Wednesday’s matchup. The Mavericks are a very vulnerable team, so this could easily end up being a lopsided victory for Golden State.
The Warriors and Heat were nearly even across most statistics. Golden State had an edge in scoring, while the Heat had a slight rebounding advantage. Where the Warriors were able to seriously pull ahead with their ball movement and assists. The Warriors dished out 39 dimes in their win, compared to only 24 from Miami. If Golden State can keep moving the ball around efficiently then they should be able to make light work of the Mavericks. The Warriors have scorers all across the floor and their ball movement is what really takes this team to the next level.
Article Continues BelowWhile COVID has swept the league, the Warriors have been nearly unaffected. James Wiseman just cleared the league’s health and safety protocols, and he was the last Warrior to do so. As of now the Warriors only have two injured players listed as out for Wednesday’s contest and Andre Iguodala is questionable. Golden State is almost completely healthy, and a healthy Warriors team is extremely dangerous. The Warriors will be on full display on Wednesday and could easily end up turning this one into a blowout.
Why The Mavericks Could Cover The Spread
The Dallas Mavericks have been all over the place this season. Through their first 37 games, they have somehow managed to squeak out a winning record with 19 wins and 18 losses. Dallas has actually won their last three games, with their most recent victory coming over the Denver Nuggets by 14. That win was extremely impressive, especially since the Mavericks were without Kristaps Porzingis. This Mavericks team has looked very good recently and will be trying to extend their win streak to four on Wednesday. The Warriors are a very tough matchup, but Dallas has shown that they can be full of surprises.
The Mavericks came into their last game against the Nuggets as slight favorites, but they ended up dominating. Dallas was actually behind in a lot of statistics, however, one stark contrast accounts for their victory. The Nuggets turned over the ball 25 times in that game compared to only 11 from Dallas. These extra 14 possessions gave the Mavericks all they needed to win. While many people may say that the Nuggets fully gave this game away, Dallas was able to force those turnovers and capitalize on the opportunities. If the Mavs can bring that same energy to Wednesday’s game then they may be able to pull off the upset.
Unlike the Warriors, the Mavericks are currently dealing with both COVID concerns and injuries. The Mavs have three players currently in the league’s health and safety protocols. Headlining the unavailable players is Kristaps Porzingis, who will miss his second straight game. However, Dallas already showed that they can overcome Porzingis' absence. Yet on top of that, Willie Cauley-Stein will be out for Wednesday’s match and Trey Burke is questionable. Dallas will need to overcome these setbacks if they want to pull off the upset.
Final Warriors-Mavericks Prediction & Pick
This is a tough pick. Obviously, the Warriors are the better team here, but now that the Mavericks have Luka they could keep this one tight. Picking one team to cover, given the spread, doesn't seem like a winning move. Rather, the over-under is what should be looked at. This could easily turn into an offensively heavy game, which makes the over seem appealing. If you are gonna pick a team then side with the Warriors, but the correct bet here is the over. Take the over and get ready for some great offenses to clash.
