Thursday night in the NBA will showcase an interconference matchup. The Phoenix Suns host the Washington Wizards for the first time this year. It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Wizards-Suns prediction and pick based on Wizards Suns odds.
The Washington Wizards might be the biggest surprise of the season so far. They sit at 15-14 and are seventh in the Eastern Conference standings. Nobody expected the Wizards to compete this year after they traded away Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers before the season. They are starting to slow down as they have lost seven of their last 10 games. That shows you have quick they started if they are still over .500 on the year. The Wizards are coming off a 119-105 loss to the Sacramento Kings where Bradley Beal put up 30 points.
The Suns remain one of the top teams in the NBA. They are coming off a close win over the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday night. Phoenix is 22-5 and is second in the Western Conference. They are dominant at home this year, going 12-2 scoring over 110 points per game. Devin Booker remains out for the Suns, which is a good sign for the Wizards.
Let's see how FanDuel set the Wizards-Suns line for Thursday night.

Article Continues BelowWhy The Wizards Could Cover The Spread
The Wizards aren't playing their best ball lately so this may be a tough game to cover. They will need to take advantage of the absence of Devin Booker. They are allowing 114.2 points per game over their last 10 games which is not good at all. Even without Booker for Pheonix, they can still put up points. The Suns are averaging 109 points per game even without him. That is going to be the biggest factor for Washington because the Suns create mismatches all game long. Nine points is a big spread and the Wizards are capable of covering if they show up on defense. Bradley Beal and Spencer Dinwiddie need to be on their best game.
Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread
The Suns usually don’t have any issue covering spreads. They are 14-13 against the spread this year but nine points is a tough one to cover. Chris Paul will need to continue his role of leading the team and Deandre Ayton will need to continue his dominance. He scored 28 and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win over the Blazers. With Ayton back, the Suns are too dominant for many teams to handle. I don't expect the Wizards to keep it close with the Suns almost at full strength again. The depth the team provides is among the best in the NBA and it's what is going to help them contend in the playoffs this year.
Final Wizards-Suns Prediction & Pick
I'm taking the Suns to cover this spread and win pretty easily. The Wizards are better than we all think and should keep it close for most of the game. I expect once the fourth quarter comes around the Suns will start to pull away. Paul and Ayton will dominant the game and the Wizards will have a difficult time stopping them. They give up too many points per game and so I think that will be a reason why the Suns cover.
Final Wizards-Suns Prediction & Pick: Suns -9 (-110)
