The Cleveland Browns will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in a classic AFC North battle. It's time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Browns-Steelers prediction and pick.
This is the last chance for both of these teams. The Browns are currently 7-8, but they still have a chance at making the postseason. A loss here obviously destroys those hopes, turning this into a must-win game. The Steelers have a slightly better record at 7-7-1, but they're essentially in the same boat. A loss to Cleveland here would mean that Pittsburgh had their season ended by the Browns in two consecutive years. There's plenty of bad blood in this incredibly important game, so it should be an entertaining one.

Why The Browns Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowCleveland has been a run-first offense for years, and that philosophy is perfect for this matchup. Pittsburgh is the worst team in the NFL at stopping opposing run games, as they allow a whopping 142 rushing yards per game. The Steelers also allow 4.8 yards per carry, another figure that is the worst in the league. The Browns have a chance to dominate time of possession and move the ball at will on the ground here. As long as Cleveland keeps the turnovers to a minimum, they should be great on offense.
While their record reflects some level of consistency, the Steelers have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFL, particularly on offense. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been terrible all season long, and the run game is next to nonexistent. Cleveland's defense has been solid all around, and their ability to rush the passer should disrupt the already-poor Steelers offense.
Why The Steelers Could Cover The Spread
Whoever wins the turnover battle usually wins the game, and the Steelers have a great chance to at winning the turnover battle in this game. Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield just tossed four interceptions in a game against the Green Bay Packers. The last time Mayfield started a game and didn't throw an interception was in late November, so it's certainly possible that that trend continues here against a Pittsburgh defense that creates a lot of pressure.
The Browns haven't been much better than average this season, but they fall to far below average when they play on the road. Head coach Kevin Stefanski's team currently owns a 2-5 road record on the season. Heinz Field is one of the toughest venues to play in in the entire NFL, making this a daunting road trip for the Browns. Pittsburgh has earned a 5-3 record at home, so playing in front of their home crowd obviously has a positive effect. Expect Heinz Field to produce a playoff environment on the road for Cleveland.
Final Browns-Steelers Prediction & Pick
Pittsburgh is one of the most inconsistent teams in the league, making it tough to confidently bet them. Instead, take the Browns and their huge advantage in the ground game.
