Week 16 of the NFL season is already here! The Houston Texans host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. It's time to continue our NFL odds series with a Chargers-Texans prediction and pick.
The Los Angeles Chargers had a great opportunity to potentially win the AFC West division when they hosted the Kansas City Chiefs last Thursday night. LA had a late lead but ended up losing in overtime to split the season series with Kansas City. It will take a couple of losses from the Chiefs to win the division, but Los Angeles still has a favorable chance at making the playoffs this season. The Chargers will travel to Houston to take on a Texans team who is not playing too hot. The Chargers are 8-6 on the year but are 4-5 in their last nine games. LA desperately needs to take advantage of the team in front of them and put themselves in a better position for the postseason.

The Texans are coming off a solid win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday. Houston is starting rookie QB, Davis Mills after Tyrod Taylor was benched. It's going to be intriguing to see how he plays against the Chargers' strong secondary. LA ranks 10th against the pass so the Texans will need to come up with a good game plan if they want to beat them. Houston contains the worst run offense in the NFL and so that won't be a factor this week.

Why The Chargers Could Cover The Spread
LA should easily cover this spread. The Chargers will be missing 11 crucial players due to Covid-19 for the game but that shouldn't matter. The Bolts are far better than right now and they are in a position to contend for a Super Bowl this year. Offensively, they will be missing star running back Austin Ekeler but will still have plenty of weapons for Justin Herbert. A big factor in this game will be turnovers. The Chargers lead the league with 10 strip-sacks on the year with Joey Bosa stripping QBs six times. Bosa will also be out this week so the Bolts will need to rely on others to step up and create turnovers. LA will need a few turnovers to give them a better chance to cover this 10-point spread.
Why The Texans Could Cover The Spread
This will be a tough game for the Texans to cover, but they could with the lack of depth for LA right now. Since the Chargers are missing some crucial players, Houston will need to take advantage of that and do their best to keep it close. Mills will need to limit his turnovers because the Chargers can do a lot to create them. If the Texans want to cover this spread, they must take control of the time of possession and not commit any turnovers. LA can score a ton of points so they need to keep the Bolts' offense off the field.
Final Chargers-Texans Prediction & Pick
I'm taking the Chargers to cover this spread and win by multiple scores. LA can't let this game get close because that could really hurt them in the playoffs. I expect them to keep their foot on the gas based on their last game against the Chiefs. I think LA will put up a good amount of points so I also expect the over to hit.
