Why The Falcons Can Cover The Spread

The Falcons got off to a 0-2 start before beating the New York Giants last week. The defense showed signs of life, holding the Giants to 14 points after struggling miserable in the first two games. The offense hasn't been great all season, but veteran quarterback Matt Ryan was able to make enough plays to pull out the narrow road victory. Washington got demolished defensively vs. the Buffalo Bills last week, so perhaps Arthur Smith can put together a better offensive performance in Week 4. The Football Team ranks 29th in passing yards allowed per game so far this season and 25th in rushing yards allowed. This is food for thought when making a Washington Falcons prediction.
Washington is a similar opponent to New York in some ways, and this time around the Falcons will be on their home field. Points may be hard to come by against a strong Washington front, but if the Falcons' defense can replicate their performance from last week they should be able to hang around. If it comes down to the fourth quarter, are you going to ride with the former NFL MVP Ryan or Washington's Taylor Heinicke in his fourth career regular season start?
Why The Washington Football Team Can Cover The Spread
Washington has the edge in the trenches on both sides. Their defensive line is one of the best in the NFL when it's clicking with the likes of Chase Young and Jonathan Allen wreaking havoc in opposing backfields. The Falcons have had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL over the past couple years, and that doesn't appear to be remedied just yet so far this season. The Football Team can rebound vs. Atlanta despite a bad loss last week vs. the Bills. They are the more complete roster, and if their defense can reestablish themselves they could dominate the game vs. a suspect front for the Falcons. Terry McLaurin may be able to get loose vs. a young Falcons secondary similarly to how DeVonta Smith did in Week 1 in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Atlanta's best corner, A.J. Terrell, is questionable. The Falcons getting points at home is too much to pass up. Washington's defense has struggled so far this season. If Atlanta can get decent protection for Ryan, they could win this game comfortably. If it's going to be a sloppy game that comes down to the fourth quarter, ride the experienced quarterback to get it done like he did last week in New York.
