The Boston Bruins head back into Canada tonight as they look to end their four-game road trip with a win tonight against Atlantic Divisional rival, the Ottawa Senators. The Bruins are on a two-game losing streak, but their last win was against, you guessed it, the Ottawa Senators, last Saturday, as they shut them out 2-0. Since that game, the Senators are 2-1 as they come back home for a four-game homestand. It’s now time to continue our NHL odds series with a Bruins-Senators prediction and pick.

Why The Bruins Can Cover The Spread/Win

Unfortunately, star winger Brad Marchand's suspension appeal was denied yesterday as he'll look to sit out game number five out of six tonight. Since he's been away, the Bruins' offense has taken a considerable dip, resulting in the under 5.5 goals to hit in three of those four games so far that their lead point-scorer, Marchand has been missing. However, the defense for Boston has proven to be the best in the league as star defenseman Charlie MacAvoy leads his team to be ranked first in not allowing goals in 5-on-5 situations. This is also due to young goaltender, Jeremy Swayman, who should be getting the starting nod tonight. He's posting a .923 save percentage and allowing 2.15 goals against so far on the season. Swayman will look to give his offense an opportunity to win this game for him as he shuts the door on Ottawa tonight.

Why The Senators Can Cover The Spread/Win

Ottawa is coming off of a 3-1 road win against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday as they start their new four-game homestand against the Boston Bruins. Much like the Bruins, Ottawa has seen some low-scoring games lately, as 12 of their last 14 have stayed under the 5.5 total goal mark; in fact, Ottawa is hitting the under at a 29-17-1 pace so far on the season. Starting in net tonight for the Senators should be Matt Murray, who is having a pretty nice season as Ottawa's backup goaltender, posting a .919 save percentage and allowing 2.69 goals against, but has allowed two or fewer goals in six of his last seven starts. However, without Josh Norris and Drake Batherson, the Senators' offensive woes will continue to struggle as they look to avoid giving up two points at home tonight.

Final Bruins-Senators Prediction & Pick

This will be the third meeting between these two teams so far this year where both the previous matchups have stayed under the 5.5 goal mark. In a matchup where both goaltenders are playing very solid games as of late, and where star power for both sides (Marchand, Norris, and Batherson) are sidelined, I expect the total to stay under. With that said, I think Moneyline will lean towards the Bruins. This is kind of risky, but on FanDuel, there is an option to play a “Moneyline Total Goals Parlay (No OT No Push)” where Boston and the under is +260. Those odds are much nicer than just taking the under, so that's the bet I'm going to ride.
