The Flyers and Red Wings are back in action tonight after the weekend-long NHL All-Star break. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Red Wings-Flyers prediction and pick.

FanDuel Super Bowl Promo

The Flyers come back from the All-Star break ready to extend their two-game winning streak after a frustrating, season-high, 13-game drought. The Red Wings look to come off the All-Star break with a little pep in their step, trying to get on the right path. They're currently just one spot out of the playoffs but are a whole 10 points behind the Boston Bruins. Without consistency, the city of Detroit won't be watching their team in the playoffs for the sixth straight year.

Why the Red Wings Can Cover The Spread/Win

Article Continues Below

The All-Star couldn't have come at a better time for the Red Wings. They have a 4-4-1 record over their last nine games, and their young talent in Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond has seemed to slow up a bit after both being in the mix for the Calder trophy. Captain, Dylan Larkin, will continue to try and get his teammates back on the right track and towards a playoff start. As far as injuries go, the Red Wings are ultimately pretty healthy, besides defenseman Nick Leddy, who will remain out for this game. Starting in net for the Red Wings will most likely be Alex Nedeljkovic, who has a .911 save percentage, and averaging 2.90 goals against per game, through 31 starts on the season. He will singlehandedly help keep the Red Wings in this game tonight.

Why the Flyers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Flyers have not lived up to proper expectations this year, but they come off the All-Star break with a two-game win streak, looking to get back on track. With only 38 points, the Flyers and anything but a playoff team, and will most likely be sellers when we get closer to the trade deadline on March 21st. The injury bug hit the Flyers hard this year by taking out defenseman Ryan Ellis, leaving little to no depth behind him on the back end. Sean Couturier, Kevin Hayes, and Joel Farabee also all remain sidelined upfront. The one bright light for the Flyers right now is goaltender, Carter Hart. He has his hiccups here and there, but he's flying under the radar with a .915 save percentage through 28 starts so far.

Final Red Wings-Flyers Prediction and Pick

Both teams have over -30+ goal differential, and tend to keep games close, which makes me believe this matchup will be no different. The goalies for this game are too good for players who can't consistently seem to find the back of the net. Typically I would take the Red Wings +1.5 here, but the value in their spread just isn't worth the payout. Instead, I'm going to take under six goals. Both goalies will want to keep their teams in the game to start the second half of the season on the right foot.

Final Red Wings-Flyers Prediction and Pick: Under 6 (-118)
