The Winnipeg Jets play at home again tonight as they host the Minnesota Wild in this inner-division rivalry matchup. The Wild have won four of their last five games, where that one loss actually came from the Jets. Winnipeg needs to work on consistency, but is still a very threatening team on paper as they're coming off of a home loss against the Chicago Blackhawks. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Wild-Jets prediction and pick.

Why The Wild Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Wild have been red hot lately, only tailing the Colorado Avalanche for first place in the Central Division. They have a load of talent and youngsters, including last year's Calder Trophy winner, Kirill Kaprizov. They also brought on Matt Boldy in January, who has put up seven goals and seven assists in his first 13 career games. In fact, he's coming off of a hat-trick performance against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. Minnesota's offense, in general, has really been doing well so far this season, having the third-best scoring rate in the league, averaging 3.8 goals per game. Cam Talbot should get another start in net tonight, posting a .915 save percentage and 2.78 goals against average.

If the Wild can stay hot, they have a good chance at not only taking this win home with them but also move up the power rankings and deeper securing their spot in the playoffs.

Why The Jets Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Jets have been struggling as of late and are 20-18-8, giving them only 48 points – enough to miss the playoffs but quite a margin. Kyle Connor has been very solid on this non-consistent franchise, putting up 26 goals and 50 points on the season so far. However, the rest of Winnipeg's offense can't keep up with him as they are ranked 22nd in the league offensively, only scoring 2.83 goals per game. On paper, this team has loads of talent, including goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. The 28-year-old is considered one of the best net-minders in the league and has overall played well, but without any help in front of him, he's fallen to a 16-16-7 record, a .913 save percentage, and allowing 2.81 goals per game.

If his forwards can start producing, Hellebuyck can keep the Jets in this game, but with the inconsistency issue that Winnipeg faces right now, it could go either way.

Final Wild-Jets Prediction & Pick

Winnipeg has the potential to be a top team in this league but leans too heavily on their goaltending. Yes, it'll win you games, but so does putting the puck in the net, which is where the inconsistency comes in. The Wild have been playing lights out lately and are the clear cut better team heading into this matchup. As long as they can find a way to grab a lead early, I expect the Wild to easily pull this one out and head back home with an extra two points.
