Why The Phillies Will Cover The Spread/Win
Cristopher Sanchez will take the ball, and he is having a pretty good year. Sanchez has thrown 54.1 innings, and he has a 3.15 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP. What is the most impressive is Sanchez has allowed just one home run all season. He does a fantastic job keeping hitters in the park. This is something he needs to continue to do. The Giants are not a team that will kill you with home runs, but they can put some out if the pitcher is not careful. Sanchez should be able to keep the Giants in the park and shut down the Giants in this game, though.
The Phillies need to hit the ball. Kyle Harrison has an xBA of .253 and he allows hitters to hit the ball over 90 mph on average off him. The Phillies are batting .266 against left-handed pitching, which is 14 points higher than their average off righties. Philadelphia is slugging better against left-handed pitching. With the Phillies' success off lefties, and Harrison's tendency to allow opponents to really hit the ball, the Phillies have a great chance to put some runs on the board and win this game.
Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win
Yes, Harrison has allowed some hard hits, but he is still having a good season. He has a 3.90 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 57 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched. Along with that, Harrison is constantly keeping the Giants in games. San Francisco has won the last eight games Harrison has started this season. In fact, the Giants have won nine of his 11 starts. Harrison has gone under five innings just once, as well. If he can continue to pitch well and keep the Giants in games, San Francisco can win this one.
Sanchez will not allow many home runs, but he does allow hits. This season, Sanchez has allowed more hits than innings pitched, and his xBA is .279. He is not a big strikeout pitcher, so hitters do put the ball in play off him. Sanchez is a massive ground ball pitcher, though. The Giants have to stay under the ball and keep the ball off the ground. They need to be able to find some gaps and get a few extra-base hits off him. As mentioned, they will have plenty of opportunities to do so as Sanchez is not a big strikeout pitcher. If the Giants can rack up the hits, they will score some runs and beat the Phillies.
Final Phillies-Giants Prediction & Pick
This should be a good game. Both pitchers are having respectable seasons, and they can each shut down an opponent anytime they take the mound. For this game, I will take the home team. The Giants are playing good baseball as of late, and they play especially well when Harrison pitches. I will take the Giants' moneyline.
