Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread/Win
The Timberwolves have lost every game by under 10 points. They have been in each game, and they have even held leads. However, the Timberwolves have not been playing as good of defense as they were in their first two series. Minnesota needs to get back to their dominant defensive play. Now, they are still allowing just 111 points per game, which is not a lot. However, they were allowing less than 100 in the first two series combined. Minnesota needs to find a way to shut down Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, especially in the fourth quarter. If they can get back to their dominant defensive ways, they will be able to avoid being swept.
Minnesota needs their two best players to step up. On the series, Anthony Edwards is shooting under 40 percent from the field while Karl-Anthony Towns is shooting under 30 percent. neither of them are shooting the ball well, and that has to change. Along with that, Towns is shooting just 13.6 percent from the three-point line. All of this needs to change. If Edwards and Towns can step up and make their shots, they are a very hard team to beat. However, if they remain cold, there is a good chance the Timberwolves will be swept.
Why The Mavericks Could Cover The Spread/Win
Dallas is having a great series, and they are doing a great job not panicking when down. One thing they are doing especially well is playing in the fourth quarter. They are outscoring the Timberwolves 85-64 in the fourth quarter this series, so they are able to really put them away. In the second half, the Mavericks are outscoring Minnesota by 20 points. The Mavericks are playing great when it matters, and that does not seem to be slowing down. If the Mavericks can continue playing shutdown basketball in the second half, they will be able to advance to the Finals.
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are the difference makers this series. They are averaging 32.7 and 27.7 points against the Timberwolves this series. Irving is shooting over 50 percent from the field on the series while Doncic is over 45 percent. They are a dangerous duo right now, and they are not going to be easy to beat. As long as Doncic and Irving continue their dominance, the Mavericks will advance.
Final Timberwolves-Mavericks Prediction & Pick
The Timberwolves have had a chance to win every single game this series. It could easily be a 3-0 series lead for the Timberwolves if it weren't for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in the second half. Doncic and Irving seem unstoppable right now, and the Timberwolves need to play good defense in order to win. Because of this, I am going to take the Mavericks to wins straight up and complete the sweep.
