UConn vs. Michigan Key Injuries

While both teams come into this game with no major injuries to report, the Final Four was certainly a stressful time for both Michigan and UConn fans as their teams were able to avoid potentially crucial injuries.

Following UConn's win over Illinois, it was revealed that star guard Solo Ball suffered a foot sprain early during the first half that he was able to play through thanks to adrenaline. The foot bothered Ball immediately after the game and he was held out of team practice on Sunday. However, Dan Hurley did not list Ball on the Sunday injury report, so he should be good to make the start.

For Michigan, star NBA prospect Yaxel Lendeborg was dealing with a compromised ankle, logging just 14 total minutes against Arizona and making several trips to the locker room for treatment. He was also being treated and rehabbing instead of practicing on Sunday, so while we may not see the tournament's best player at 100%, he should be able to make the start.

Keys to UConn vs. Michigan Matchup

History aside for both programs, Michigan has clearly been the best team in college basketball this season, while the UConn Huskies may be the best-coached team in this year's tournament. Through each of the Huskies' last three wins over Michigan State, Duke, and Illinois, coach Dan Hurley has put on a masterclass in game planning and maximizing his team's advantages as the underdogs. Their ball movement and ability to hit clutch shots down the stretch is what has them competing for their third title in four years.

Michigan has clearly been the most dominant team in the tournament, becoming the first program in history to score 90 or more point through each of their first five tournament games, winning each of those games by double-digits or more. The trio of Yaxel Lendeborg, Morez Johnson Jr., and Aday Mara has been wrecking opposing defenses from all three levels of the court.

Although he logged just 14 minutes against Arizona, Lendeborg went 3-3 from deep while posting 11 points. During this tournament, he's shooting a wild 61.3% and will hopefully be playing at full capacity following his injury scare.

For UConn, Tarris Reed Jr. has been their best player all tournament and he should be able to offer stern resistance inside against the bigs of Michigan. He's been great in drawing fouls and getting to the line, posting 34 free-throw attempts during this tournament and converting at a 76.5% rate. During this game, watch for the Huskies to feed Reed Jr. early as Alex Karaban, Solo Ball, and Braylon Mullins find their groove from deep.

UConn vs. Michigan Prediction and Pick

This National Championship has all the makings of a classic and while Michigan is favored to win by a significant margin, we've seen Dan Hurley and the Huskies beat better teams than them thanks to consistency and unselfishness with their style of play. The capacity to which Michigan's Yaxel Lendeborg can play in this game will be the main storyline as we could see Morez Johnson Jr. with a much more active role throughout this one.

Still, the battle inside between UM's Aday Mara and UConn's Tarris Reed Jr. will be the most crucial matchup to watch as both big men have been widely dominant throughout this tournament.

While I expect Michigan to come away with the win thanks to their dominant run thus far, I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Hurley's squad is able to keep this a one-possession game down to the final seconds.

Final UConn-Michigan Prediction & Pick: UConn +6.5 (-105); OVER 144.5 (-110)
