It has been a rough offseason for Buffalo Bills wide receiver Zay Jones, to say the least. As a result, it seems he will be the low man on the totem pole once again.

Jones managed to start in 10 games during the 2017 NFL season. According to Ryan Talbot of NYup.com, general manager Brandon Beane says he will have to earn his starting job once again:

“He's not just going to necessarily go right to the top of the line. He'll have to earn his way. Part of that will just be just getting his feel. He's only played with Nathan Peterman. He has not got to play with Josh Allen or AJ yet. So that bond there will just have to form.”

Buffalo selected Jones in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft and he was quickly able to establish a role in the team's new receiving corps. Unfortunately, he endured a bit of a rocky rookie campaign after hauling in just 27 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games.

That said, Beane's comments should come as no surprise. Between coming off a knee injury and his off-field incidents, Jones has not had much time to get on the field lately.

Furthermore, the Bills have added two new quarterbacks to the roster that he has yet to build any type of chemistry with. This will likely put him at a bit of a disadvantage to start off with.

However, Jones may already have an inside track to the No. 2 wideout job given the coaching staff's familiarity with him. Regardless, he will have to prove as such from here on out.
