Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen has signed his four-year rookie contract in time for the start of training camp, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.

The Bills traded up on draft night to select Allen with the No. 7 overall pick. The rookie will have a legitimate shot to win the starting quarterback job for the Bills. He will compete with AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman for the starting spot during training camp, where he will begin at No. 3 on the depth chart.

With Allen signing his deal, only four other draft picks have yet to sign their rookie contracts: Jets QB Sam Darnold, Browns CB Denzel Ward, Bears LB Roquan Smith, and 49ers WR Dante Pettis.

Allen was touted as a potential No. 1 pick by the Browns for a good portion of the draft process. This was despite his well-documented accuracy issues during college. But with elite arm talent and other physical gifts, he was still considered a highly-rated prospect. After he slipped out of the top five, the Bills decided to trade up and grab him with the seventh pick.

The Bills offense isn’t in the best of shape heading into the season. They lost two key offensive linemen in Richie Incognito and Eric Wood, and their receiving corps has question marks outside of Kelvin Benjamin. And of course, uncertainty looms regarding the LeSean McCoy situation.

Allen, who is widely considered to still be a raw prospect, will likely experience some growing pains if he does play in his rookie year. But after showing flashes during spring workouts, the Bills will be hoping Allen lives up to his immense potential in Buffalo at some point.
