Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs for a number of reasons – but one of them was inarguably a coin flip.
That aspect is perhaps the only thing that dampens what was arguably one of the greatest NFL playoff games fans have ever witnessed. Josh Allen played like the best quarterback in football to give the Bills every opportunity to win the game, but unfortunately so did his counterpart in Patrick Mahomes.
With both quarterbacks playing the way that they did, it's no wonder that the winner of the coin toss to start overtime also won the game on a touchdown. The Bills QB accepted reality when asked about the OT rules allowing for a walk-off TD from Patrick Mahomes to seal the win for the Chiefs.
Via Bills reporter for ESPN Alaina Getzenberg:
Josh Allen on the overtime rules: “The rules are what they are and I can't complain. … If it was the other way around, we'd be celebrating.”
While Josh Allen won't be publicly decrying the overtime rules that enabled the swift end of their season, the angry mob on Twitter is certainly willing to fight his battles.
Reminder that the NFL’s OT rules are stupid as shit. Josh Allen loses a coin toss and doesn’t get to touch the football? Idiotic.

The only mistake Josh Allen made tonight was calling tails on the coin toss.

Unreal game. Hate that it ended on a coin flip though. You know Josh Allen is punching one in if he gets another set of downs.

And in a cruel twist of fate, Josh Allen has actually gone 9-0 on calling coin tosses this season. The Bills QB's luck unfortunately ran out at the worst possible time.
Coming into tonight, Josh Allen was 9-0 on calling the coin toss this season.

But despite the loss, Josh Allen and the Bills demanded nothing but respect from their opponents and the entire NFL. They deserved to win just as much as the Chiefs did, but there could only be one.
Via Kevin Patra:
“They made one more play than we did. That's what it came down to,” Allen said. “Obviously, it hurts, and you don't like feeling like this, especially back-to-back years in the same place. We gotta find a way to be better next year and accomplish what we want to accomplish.”
Josh Allen and the Bills will probably sulk about the loss for the meantime, but you better believe this will just motivate them even further going into next season.
