Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum jokes that players should start bribing media members in order to help them become supermax eligible.

The media votes for who makes the All-NBA teams. The supermax was installed to help teams keep their star players by being able to offer them more money if they qualify for it.

Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard qualified for the supermax by making an All-NBA team this season for the second straight season. Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley and Golden State Warriors All-Star Klay Thompson didn't.

It might be time to change the system here. It's unfair to ask the media to essentially determine who gets the supermax or not. This is a lot of extra money we are talking about here. Just look at Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns, who missed out on an extra $33 million by not making an All-NBA team.

The Blazers and Lillard will come to terms on a supermax deal this summer, keeping Lillard and McCollum together. Portland reached the Western Conference Finals this season for the first time since 2000.

McCollum, who made $25,759,766 this season and is owed $27,556,959 in 2019-20, averaged 21.0 points during the regular season while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.
