In this day and age in the NBA, social media has become a prominent part of marketing concerning the league and its players.

Portland Trail Blazers All-Star point guard Damian Lillard has taken full advantage of that uptick in the importance of social media by expanding his own personal brand in the process, according to Nick DePaula of ESPN.

“When I got to the league, that's when I realized how useful it could be,” said Lillard, “as far as growing your brand and allowing people to get to know you as a person.”

Lillard has utilized social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to promote his shoe line with Adidas to even help boost his rap career that has developed through his first few years in the league. In fact, ESPN is also reporting that he has made nearly four times as many posts about his sneakers than the likes of LeBron James.

This has also helped him become an even more popular player among the general NBA fan because of his presence on social media. At the same time, he has also been able to connect with his fan base to a greater degree.

Beyond that, what this signals more than anything else is that use of social media in the NBA will only take a much greater role for years to come.
